I'm 27 With High Blood Pressure. What Can I Do To Lower It?

Before, just two years ago I was 115lbs. 2006 I decided to put on some weight and hit the gym continuously. Although working out like crazy I was trying to eat all the right food by cutting out all the soda, fast foods and my favorite Waldo's pizza. It seems now that it kinda back fired. Within year 2006 I started weighing 165lbs. MY GOAL! Gym 5 days a week, 3 Myoplex, 6-10 eggs (no yok), 4 pancakes, 2 bananas and 2 sausages. Not the best diet. Now I'm looking to lower blood pressure yet maintain my weight. HELP!!

I guess the first question is what is you BP? How much do you weight now? There are many options first Lifestyle modifications eat right cut out salt and exercise at least 3X a week.  With a doctor's recommendation, a HTCZ hydrochlorothiazide or a water pill to help with retention. There are many Hypertension medicines typically as you age and if you are predisposed (Family History) you may need 3-5 meds to get your BP to 140/90 and if you are a diabetic you need it even lower. Seek a Doctors appointment and let them make the call. Meantime eat well no stress and exercise

I'm 5'7 or 5'8 about 155lbs now. Two weeks ago I checked my bp at a parmacy in one of those BP chairs. It read 146. I don't know of anyone in my family that ha high BP. But my grandma is a diabetic. I have been slackin from the gym lately and will get back to my regular schedule. I was going 5x each week and some days twice a day. but this was before I new of the high bp. I will get to a doctor very soon. Monday when they are open. But what are some tasty foods and shakes I can have? I want to change the way I get and drink. I thought I was doing ok but I'm worried.

Hi there your Bp is a tad bid on the high side but not too much. A big tip which will lower your blood pressure get some porridge or oat meal as you Americans call it and add some water. Then just eat some while eating a balanced diet. After a month your blood pressure should drop. I know its horrible to eat but it will help you.

First things first to check your own BP is OK BUT you need to sit still for at least 2 minutes (more is better) to get a decent idea. Your BP does not sound so high, (there should be 2 figures written like a fraction) what are you using as your guide? You may benefit from finding out what your cholesterol level is, it is easy to check as home testing kits are available through the Internet. If it is over the recommended limit then take some steps to reduce it, the well publicised yoghurt drinks seem to help many people, or a 'statin' type of medicine; they are available in Pharmacies(drug stores) in UK but you may a need prescription elsewhere. The advice on diet sent by others looks pretty good, in general look out for animal fats, obvious and hidden, salt and added sugar.
It occurs to me that you are quite anxious about your health and BP, unfortunately this is a catch 22 situation as unresolved stress will worsen the problem you identify. Try to relax a little. Hope this helps
