    Charles William Duncan Jr. was the United States Secretary of Energy under the administration of President Jimmy Carter. He occupied the post only for part of the President's term. Charles Duncan Jr. occupied this office from the year 1979 to 1981 when President Reagan assumed office. Charles Duncan Jr. was the Deputy Secretary of Defense of the United States prior to having become the US Secretary of Energy.

    Charles Duncan was the Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1977 to 1979 in the administration of President Jimmy Carter. As the Secretary of Energy he was preceded by James R Schlesinger and was succeeded in office by James B Edwards and as the Under Secretary of Defense he was preceded by Bill Clements and succeeded by W. Graham Clayton. Charles William Duncan had studied at Rice University and was in the class of 1947.
