Answer Question

Bollywood is a large Indian film industry based in Mumbai considered the most prolific in the world, based on the amount of films produced and tickets sold. Many of the films are remakes of Western films, while a large proportion are musicals or romantic melodramas. Some of the top grossing films of 2006 have included the love story Fanaa, the comedy Golmaal and the science fiction sequel Krrish. Famous early Bollywood films are predominantly historical epics focusing on Indian and Hindi culture, including Pukar (1939), Sikander (1941) and Shaheed (1948). Bollywood output began to gain a more international market in the 1950s, with coming of age film Awaara (1951) gaining a wide audience and Mother India (1957), which received a Best Foreign Picture Oscar Nomination. Other notable films from this period include Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (1955), one of the first colour films in Indian history, and melodrama Aradhana (1969), while Garam Hawa (1974), a study of the effects of British India, was critically praised. In the 1990s films such as Roja (1992) and Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) were major commercial and critical successes. In recent years, historical drama Laagan (2001), was also a Best Foreign Film Oscar nominee.
