How Do You Build A Dog House?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A dog house is usually constructed out of a 150 into 19 rough-sawn treated pines for the flooring and the roof, this sort of timber is also mainly used for fence paling also.

You will need fifty by fifty gauged or dressed untreated pine for framing and 50 by 50 gauged or dressed PT pine for under floor skids and one sheet of 9mm exterior plywood from which the walls of the dog house will be cut. Always remember never to use pressure treated timber for any sections because the dogs may chew. Pressure treated timber usually has preservatives which can be toxic for dogs.

Make sure that the Exterior plywood has waterproof, phenolic or melamine glue line, better known as WBP. If the exterior plywood is not pressure treated it will need to be painted or sealed to prevent moisture.
