The construction industry has grown in size and application, to become a very versatile and productive market base today. Gone are the days of the extensive use of traditional materials like wood. Today most residential undertakings prefer to venture and probe into new possibilities and are willing to experiment with the latest in the industry. Users are probably familiar with the different kinds of flooring materials that are part of the choice offered today, like wood, slate, and ceramic tiles, marble and vinyl. However, the new laminate material is not only exclusive to counter tops any more. This material is very much like the counter material and is made of a laminate surface over a fibreboard core. The only difference is the strength and durability.

Laminate flooring is a good choice if you are planning on replacing the old resilient flooring that may have asbestos components. Laminate flooring is also ideally used to cover up old and weathered floors, without adding an inch to the floor level. The installation process includes:
    - Considering the beginning wall of the flooring and this should be more visible than the existing ending wall.
    - Removal of any previous carpeting or wood flooring glued to the concrete floor.
    - Identifying a good visual effect that can be achieved by mixing the products from four or five different boxes.
    - Addition of 10% as wastage to the existing floor area.

There are a number of online and offline resources that offer step-by-step guidance, to ensure a smooth finish.
