Why Can't I Talk To My Friend On My Webcam With Vista?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Well, assuming you are already using a chat program that supports webcams the next item to check is do you have a microphone attached/built-in/plugged-in to your system? If yes, often times its volume level is muted which pretty much means - no one can hear you talk to your mic.

The way to setup the mic can vary depending on sound card and drivers installed however, the general preference is open up the sound applet in control panel, select microphone from the recording tab, ensure the device is enabled, then by clicking properties, you can go to the levels tab and set the volume for the microphone.

As I mentioned, ways to deal with it will vary based on drivers, but this should be a catch all.
