Are Electric Pocket Bikes More Complicated Than A Normal Petrol/oil Machine?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

No, not really. Electric pocket bikes usually come fully or near fully assembled and include a charger kit for energising the minibike straight from a standard 240 volts domestic outlet.

Electric pocket bikes are normally powered by two batteries that produce upwards of 250 Watts. Also expect the usual pocket bike refinements such as:
    • Fairings
    • Vented disk brakes
    • Slick or patterned tyres
    • Aluminum wheel rims
    • Key ignition
    • Variable speed throttle control

With electric motor technology advancing all the time, specifications are consistently improving. There are now pocket bikes available that boast a 700 Watt motor, the largest power-plant so far available in an electric pocket bike. Three 12 volt batteries propel these machine along at speeds in excess of 25 mph, a level of performance normally only associated with petrol-driven pocket bikes.

In most respects, an electric pocket bike is the simpler and cleaner option. There's not much in the way of maintenance, and if something does go wrong it is usually outwith the scope of the hobby mechanic.
