What Is The State Capital Of Michigan?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The state capital of Michigan is Lansing. Before the year 1847, it used to be Detroit.
One of the peculiar things about Lansing is that it spreads out over about three different counties. Namely the Ingham County which holds most of Lansing, the Eaton County which holds some portion of the city and a tiny portion in the Clinton county; which houses the Capital City Airport.

The city is an important cultural and social centre and also houses the prime government office buildings such as the Supreme Court, A federal court and the appellate court to mention a few.  It is also known for its educational system which boasts of two law schools, three medical colleges and the very famous Michigan State University.

In the early 1800's Lansing was still a fairly thick jungle. Development and human settlement happened in the 1840's. At that time, this under developed location went by the name of 'Biddle City'.
