    The population of the Christmas Island is very minimal as it maintains 1600 residents and the density of population is 11.06/km square. The Northern tip of the island comprising of Silver City, Drumsite, and Flying Fish Cove is the main residential area.

    The ethnic composition of Christmas Island comprises of 70% Chinese, 20%European and 10%Malay. This island has unique topographical features and is of great importance to scientists due to the abundance of flora and fauna available. The religious practices are done by the Chinese, Buddhists, Christianity and Islam.

    The British and the Dutch settled in this island from the seventeenth century. Captain William Mynors of the East India Ship Company vessel, the Royal Mary, stepped on the island on Christmas Day, 25th December, 1643 and thus the island derived its name.
