Are Some People More Susceptible To Getting Struck By Lightning?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If all things were equal then it would be safe to say that at any given moment one person is no more susceptible to being struck by lightning than another. However of course, the world is not like this and there are varying factors that may at any point make one individual more susceptible to being struck by lightning, and in turn the damage that a lightning strike may cause, these include, height, what you are carrying, proximity to an object that has been struck, and conductivity of the ground. Roy Sullivan is the man who holds the record for having been struck by lightning the most recorded times, a total of seven times over thirty five years. What, you may ask causes a man to be struck seven time by lightning? The answer is his job! Roy was a park ranger and as a consequence often found himself stuck out in the park during the onset of a thunderstorm, this made exposed him to all four dangers of a lightning strike, Direct Strike, 'Splash' from a nearby object that is struck, Ground Strike, ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP). Thankfully Roy survived all seven strikes.
