What Risks Are Associated With A Laser Skin Treatment?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A laser skin treatment destroys the top layer of skin and the body reacts to this as it does to all tissue damage. The area becomes red and inflamed and 'weeps' and then forms scabs and crusts over the healing area. It may be painful for a few days after the laser treatment and the skin can swell up and remain swollen for a week or two. There is a risk of infection of the skin at this time and it is important to keep the healing areas very clean and use antibiotic ointment to prevent infection
It can take 10 days or more for the skin to heal, and two to six months for the redness to fade completely but you can disguise the worst of this using make up.
In rare cases, some problems do arise and everyone takes these risks into account before they go ahead with the treatment. The scars can become red and raised and not fade well. It is also possible that the treatment can alter the pigmentation in the skin, making it lighter or darker, producing a patchy effect.
