    Generally advertising is perceived by most as the most important element of the promotion mix for a brand.  The perception is right in some cases while wrong in other cases, however there are a number of factors behind every exclusive case.  An advertiser opts out for advertising or any other promotional tool when he is aiming to achieve a certain objective.  Regarding the state of these rationales, advertisements are of two types.  The first type is that of brand awareness advertisements.  In this type, the basic rationale behind the advertising is to generate brand awareness amongst the respective target market.  This brand could be anything from an organization, a product or a service to a campaign or a program.  The second type is that of response.  This type of advertising is generally incorporated to motivate consumers or the target audience to engage in a particular sort of behavior.  This behavior could be anything ranging from buying a product or taking part in a campaign to voting for a political candidate or advocating a specific cause.
