How Do I Go About Making My Own Stained Glass Pattern?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Luckily, making your own stained glass pattern needn't require any particular outstanding artistic ability. It is not as difficult as you may imagine so long as the design is not overly ambitious or inherently fussy.

Observe the Golden Rule of keeping it simple. Remember that ultimately you will be picking up the tab for purchasing the glass and the leading.

The complexity of your design should reflect your own abilities, it will be you that has to cut each individual piece and assemble it into the end product.

Since not all of us can claim to be talented artists, the easiest way to produce your own pattern is from a photograph, either a 35mm print or a printed out digital image. Next, get tracing paper and outline the major lines and details. Inspect the resulting shape you have traced and amend as necessary to obtain your desired pattern. It's that simple.
