Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Stockport County Football Club was founded in 1883, but was originally part of the Wycliffe Congressional Church and was known as the Heaton Norris Rovers.
It joined forces with another team named Heaton Norris, also from the local area and in 1890, the merged team changed it's name to Stockport County FC.
The club's nickname is 'the Hatters' as the town of Stockport has historical links with the industry of hat-making.

Stockport County FC began playing in the Lancashire League, but were accepted into Division Two of the Football League in 1900.

The club has played it's home games at the ground of Edgeley Park since it's opening in 1902. The stadium currently has a capacity for approximately 11,000 spectators.

Stockport County play in the League Two division of the Football League. In the 2005/06 season, they finished in 22nd place in the table.
