We all get sick at some point in our lives, whether it be suffering from a cold, or something more serious. Although the body is a highly complex and very clever system, sometimes bacteria and viruses invade it and make us feel sick.
If you look after your body, the likelyhood that you will suffer illness is rare. However, as soon as you start to neglect your body, by feeding it the wrong stuff, or by abusing it by drinking excessively, or burning the candle at both ends, it is quickly open to infection.
The immune system in our bodies is our defence mechanism and protects us by attacking any nasty viruses that might try to invade it. When we don't look after our health, our immune system lowers and it has to work harder to fight off the bad bacteria. By eating a healthy diet, including plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and drinking plenty of water, you should keep your immune system high enough to prevent you from fallng ill.
