MARTA is the acronym for Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. MARTA is responsible for operating the subway and bus system for the city of Atlanta, DeKalb and Fulton counties in the state of Georgia in the United States.

The rail system of MARTA covers approximately 46 route miles and has a network of 36 stations. It serves nearly 250,000 passengers everyday. The frequency of the trains is just 8 minutes apart and trains run from 5 am to 1 am on weekdays. MARTA became operational in 1979.

The trains that MARTA runs are controlled by an Automatic Train Control. The operator or engine driver has to only manage ingress and egress through automated doors and make announcements over the intercom system. The train cabs are manufactured by French, Japanese and Italian companies.
