It depends. If you are planning to go and see a film which hasn't been hugely hyped then you can purchase the tickets at the actual cinema. If you are planning to see a film that is expected to be a huge success, such as the Harry Potter films, then it would be a good idea to order your tickets online to ensure that you get a place.

Alternatively, you could wait a while rather than going to watch the film on the day of its release. This way there won't be as many people and you can order your tickets at the store (online bookings sometimes include a booking fee).

If you decide to make an online booking, then you will usually be provided with a sheet which you will need to present at the cinema in order to retrieve your tickets. This is done to prove that you have ordered the tickets online.
