Is A Balinese Cat Like A Siamese?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The only difference between a Balinese cat and a Siamese is their coat length. While the Siamese cat had a rather close coat, the Balinese has a longer silky coat along with a plumed tail. It is an oriental breed of cat that is a descendent of the Siamese and so inherits all its traits, personality and markings. It has also inherited its voice from the Siamese though it is a more soft-spoken.

They were registered as 'longhaired Siamese' originally, but Helen Smith, the lady who started this breed, disapproved of this name. She wanted the name to reflect the natural feline beauty of this cat and so she named them Balinese (after the graceful Balinese dancers).

The traditional Balinese cat has a fine, silky, medium length coat that is about two inches in length (all over its body). Unlike most show cats they do not have a woolly undercoat and have similar coloring to that of the Siamese (seal point, chocolate point etc.).
