Have someone sit on the bike and keep it level. Fill until you reach 1/2 to 3/4 of the sight glass. My wife has a 96'. Try to put whats in their now. Call the dealer in your area for the kind.

Is there a oil additive to stop the smoking on startup it only smoke 1 min after cranking and then goes away
If it quits smoking, its probrably a fuel/air problem. If the rings were bad it would smoke all the time. If you put too much oil in, it'll puke out the air filter.
