If Windows doesn’t support the codec you have stated you can purchase codec packs that will allow your files to play a range of media formats. You could consider purchasing this specific pack from: www.freewaregenius.com/2007/02/09/cccp-codec-pack/

You must remember that in order to play a media file through Windows Media Player the file needs to be in a place which is compressed and decompressed known as a Codec.

All codec’s are automatically downloaded into the media player, already on your computer, but they can be manually obtained if you are experiencing problems. Firstly you should close all programs and files and then access the internet by clicking on ‘start’, ‘all programs’ and then ‘internet explorer’. If you usually use Mozilla Firefox as your web browser then, unfortunately, you won’t be able to download the codec’s pack for Windows Media Player.

Once you have opened up Internet Explorer access Microsoft.com, search for the resources section. You should then click on the ‘Codec Installation Package’ link and then ‘continue’ which will start the Microsoft Validation process. Don’t click an anything during the process until an ‘Internet Explorer  Security Warning’ box appears; when this does, simply click ‘install’ and then the ‘download’ button when the ‘Codec Installation Package’ web page opens.

You should click on ‘run’ when prompted to do so and the codec download will begin, and when a box appears simply click ‘yes’ followed by ‘yes’ again once the license agreement appears. After that, all you need to do is be patient until the installation finishes.

I just bought this computer and I have windows vista. I downloaded some old family videos and it comes up with that it cannot be run because of a missing codec. I went to the microsoft help and it came up with this. Intel IMA ADPCM (11) codec. I'm not computer savy but I've been looking up the audio codecs and I don't seem to understand. I would really appreciate it if someone can help out.
