The most popular names in the world that have lasted are Biblical/Koranic names.

I think there is a good chance that it could be my name, Sarah.

I looked on yahoo and best answer got voted Maria and whilst that is certainly a popular name, is mostly only in Spanish speaking countries. The English equivalent (Mary) is not so popular and is not a Jewish or Muslim name.

1/6 of the world is muslim, and I believe Sarah (or a variation of it) is a prominent Muslim name.

2/6 of the world are christian, and needless to say, Sarah is and always has been a hugely popular christian name. Not only in the States and the UK, but also it is a popular German name, a Dutch name, a common Italian name, Spanish name etc etc so covers pretty much the whole of Europe and South America.

I believe that there is a Japanese variation of the name also.

The only place where it may not be prevalent is Russia/Asia but there could well be a Russian version of the name.

The only name that may eclipse this could be Eve/Eva due to similar religious connotations, but Sarah seems to be more common.
