The abbreviation NBA stands for the National Basketball Association. It is the premier men's basketball league. It is the governing body for basketball in the United States of America. The league was formed on June 6, 1946 and was formerly known as the BBA (Basketball Association of America). The league took up the name NBA after merging with their well-known rivals NBA in the year 1949. The league has several international and individual team offices controlled by the head office, which is situated at the Olympic Tower, 645 Fifth Avenue in New York City. NBA Entertainment and NBA TV Studios get their orders from offices located at Secaucus, New Jersey. To date, the NBA has reached 30 franchises and is continuously growing.
