So for all of you blurtits out there if you ever have this problem with your ford, lincoln ,  or mercury late model vehicle. The correct procedure to track down the problem is as follows.
1st check to see if your brake lights are functioning properly.
The gearshift release switch is directly connected to brake light switch.
If no brake lights check your fuse panel for a blown fuse on the brake
lights. It is normally a 15Amp fuse , if blown replace with exact 15Amp fuse
    removed.
If fuse is not blown the next thing to check is the brake light switch connected to the
brake pedal control arm up under the dash. It has a small wire harness connected
to it with two wires connected to it. This switch controls the brake light function and the release switch of the gearshift lever. If it is bad neither will work at your local auto parts store you can buy this OEM switch for $5.00 to $8.50. But if you prefer the factory replacement part from the dealer it will run you around $25.00. I went for the
OEM and replaced the broken switch in about 20 minutes it took me more time to quote the part from local sources than it actually took to install the part. Hope this is a little more information for the do it yourself driveway mechanic.

Replace the brake peddle switch. That should cure the problem.

Get a cab home and call for a tow truck to go to the park to tow your car home.

i hope you don't fix peoples automobiles because this is a useless answer.
you should get yourself another hobby. Auto diagnostics and repair is not your forte,
Maybe some grammar and spelling lessons wouldn't hurt as a beginning point.
For that matter when you are typing into the comment or answer box. if you see the little red dotted line underscoring the word you type this means it is misspelled and you should fix it. some call it spell-check.

"Spell-check" is that really a properly used context for a hyphenated word. Maybe you could get me an answer for that question.

        ROFLMAO
But really, thank you for your effort answering my question. i truly wish I could have useded in fixing my problem

Did you try to turn the steering wheel? If the steering wheel is locked step on the brake and work it loose, this happened all the time with my 91 Cadillac sedan deville. Once I got the key to steering wheel and key to turn it would go out of park. If it's your transmission though, you might as well get a new car.

Thank you for your personal experience. But I was looking for something a little more technical. Most late model cars steering wheels lock after removing the key and turning the wheel. And the car key will not rotate to the on position until you unlock the wheel.
My problem was the gearshift lever would not move from park to any other gear, my car would start fine, idle perfect, transmission had no noise, rattle, groan, grind, all functions of my transmission were AOK prior to the lever locking in the park position
so after finding the $4.22 brake light switch to be the problem i sure am glad I didnt go out and get me that $35,000 new town car. REGARDS maybe you should stick to that art thing you spoke of and stop giving automotive repair advice. I thought it to be less than helpful because if I were some unsuspecting Senior citizen I may have called Father Donnigan and donated my perfectly fine, I mean pristine, paid off 1993 Lincoln Town Car for the tax deduction and gone down to my local dealer and might as well got me new car. Bad answer and advice thats all i can say. REGARDS

I didn't say it was your transmission, I said IF it was your transmission you might as well get a new car. I was offering a quick fix for a fairly comon problem that a lot of people panic about.
I apologise for the fact that you didn't like my input, and it wasn't helpful to you, but you get what you pay for don't you?

It is not the trany, the car would not shift from park, after you start and step on the brake pedal. Some cars have a safety switch with the stop light switch. I never heard of one that did not click when you step on the brake pedal i am sure that is the problem.
