Snoopy one of the most recognized comic strip characters today, features in Peanuts the immensely popular comic strip created by the American cartoonist Charles M. Schulz (1922-2000). The comic strip made its first appearance on October 2, 1950 with Snoopy debuting two days later on October 4; the comic strip was syndicated by United Media.

Snoopy is the pet beagle of Charlie Brown an 8 year old boy; snoopy is depicted as having a vivid imagination as seen from his various alter egos the most famous of which is his masquerading as a World War I flying ace. Snoopy is also adept at impersonating characters as diverse as Beethoven and Mickey Mouse.

Schulz received the Congressional Gold Medal one of the highest civilian awards in the United States; the Charles M. Schulz museum in Santa Rosa, California where he spent thirty years of his life, commemorates his legacy as one of the foremost cartoonists in the world who made three generations of people laugh.
