Go to your itunes and right click on the device column on the left side there should be a reset button there

Go to itunes and u will find a place to reset it, you will lose your apps but can download them again for free, even the ones you paid for. And stuff like how many times you have played a song will be lost, but music will usually not be lost, im not sure. Be safe and back up your music
