The Football World Cup or the FIFA World Cup was held in Germany in 2006. It will be held next in South Africa in the year 2010. There are several factors that go to determine the favourites at a World Cup Event including the fact as to where the world cup is being held and what form the winning teams are in. If history is anything to go by then Brazil has won a total of five titles, Italy: four, Germany: three, Argentina: two, Uruguay: two, France: one and England: one. The 2006 World Cup was won by Italy and the runners up were France. Third and Fourth places went to Germany and Portugal respectively.
In this last world cup Brazil was showing good form right from the start while Italy was considered the dark horse. Portugal was in good form and Germany was considered to have the advantage of playing on home ground.
