My Dog Is 8 Years Old. She Has Had This Vaginal Discharge Off And On For Over A Week. What Could This Be?

I own a pit bull. In her 8 years, she has had only 2 litters of puppies. He has reached the age where breeding is out of the question. She started showing signs of being real clingy within the last 2 weeks, more than normal. She is not fever ridden and not showing signs of dehydration, but she has started having a discharge with a cloudy, globby brown mix.Her nipples are not swollen.Any ideas?

As your dog is 8 years old so I am excluding normal discharge of heat, pregnancy and after delivery. The discharge in your dog can be due to

    1. UTI
    2. Pyometra (Infection of uterus)
    3. Vaginitis
    4. Discharge due to clotting disorders
    5. Presence of foreign material in side vagina
These are few possibilities. In my opinion, you have to visit a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.

This dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian.  A pyometra (uterine infection) is a common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge in an older unspayed female dog.  Your dog needs to be diagnosed before this infection becomes systemic--this can be life threatening.  The treatment--depending upon condition of the dog--is having her spayed and hospitalized if needed.
