This Question Is Answered:
It's For Absolutely No Reason. Fights Are Getting Worse And Is Very Stressful For Me. Dogs Seem Like They Don't Even Like Each Other Anymore. Any Ideas On How To Stop Them From Fighting? What Can/should I Do?
I have 2 dobermans, male and female, both fixed & lived together for over 5 years-they have always gotten along. They have been fighting lately-almost every few weeks for the last 4-5 months. I have to break them up, and the fights have gotten worse. They go for each other's faces. The girl has gottes some very bad facial wounds. The boy has puncture wounds all over his face too (her bite is not as sharp as his, which accounts for the difference in injury). I have no idea what triggers the fighting - they just go at

After a fight follow the dogs to see if they are protecting something, or they don't want to have pups, not to upset anyone.

Hopefully you can link the aggression to a behavior or event.  Is there a toy or food involved?  Does it happen when you are giving attention to one of the dogs?  Is there a person or object they are protecting?
Contact a trainer or behaviorist who will come to your house, assess the dogs and the environment and develop a behavior modification plan.  To correct negative behaviors both behavior modification and behavior medication needs to be done.
For now these dogs need to be kept separate at all times.  Interactions together need to be short and well supervised.  A basket muzzle can be used so they are not able to bite each other if a fight starts.
This needs to be addressed immediately as aggression tends to escalate.  People may get injured while breaking up the fight and the aggression can become redirected to people.

Thank you. I have seen them fight, literally, over NOTHING. I will be sitting at the table, the boy will be in his cage (with door open), and the girl will be walking around. Then they will start barking and just go at it. I have prevented them from fighting a few times when I have noticed they are staring each other down and I hurry up and close the door to the cage so they can't hurt each other. The boy tends to hang out in his cage, the girl not as much but she is getting better at it. The aggression is definitely escalating and becoming more frequent, and I have gotten bit/scratched while trying to break them up as well.
