Is It Possible For My Dog To Have A Phobia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It is entirely possible for your dog to have a phobia. As with humans, most phobias start when something dramatic happens to them. Dogs from rescue centres are particularly prone to having phobias as often they have been mistreated in some way whether it is physical and mental abuse or if they have been abandoned. When abandoned, dogs can develop a separation anxiety disorder. This can cause them to behave badly when you leave them alone.

However, it isn't just rescue dogs that develop phobias. Any dog can pick up a phobia whether something happens to them as a puppy or while they are adults, anything can set a phobia off. Fireworks and loud noises can cause a dog to become extremely afraid and they will often hide or urinate on the spot when they become frightened. Or they could have a bad experience while travelling and they may not want to go through that again and so they become stressed whenever they go near your car. These phobias can be corrected but it will take a lot of time and patience on your part.
