Is There An Alternative To Surgery For A Bad Gall Bladder?

I am wondering if there is any alternative to surgery for a bad gall bladder. My boyfriend is really sick most mornings throwing up and doesen't eat right most days. He also has a drinking problem and abuses perscription pills.
