Collioure is a Mediterranean town and commune located by the seaside a few kilometres to the north of the Spanish border. It can be found in the French département of Pyrénées-Orientales, which is a part of the ancient Roussillon province. Today this is known as Languedoc-Roussillon région.
The town is well known nationwide for the 3-day August 15th celebrations which attract double the population number every year with the town's fireworks and bodégas. The town with its a strong Catalan culture, shares its motto with a the local Catalan rugby team (that is, USA Perpignan, France). The motto is 'Sempre endavant, mai morirem' which translates as 'Always forward, We'll never die'. The town's alternative motto is 'Collioure sera toujours Collioure', which means 'Collioure stay the same' which is a quote from French singer Maurice Chevalier's well-known song titled 'Paris sera toujours Paris'. Collioure also shares its name with an AOC wine which is similar to the famous Banyuls (AOC).
