What Is A Reindeer?

A reindeer also known as caribou is basically an Arctic and Subarctic-dwelling deer. They are found living in throughout Scandinavia (including Iceland); in Finland; at Spitsbergen; in European parts of Russia including Northern Russia and Novaya Zemlya; in the Asian parts of Russia, to the Pacific Ocean; in North America (where it is called the caribou) on Greenland, Canada and Alaska. Reindeer are generally domesticated in Northern Scandinavia and Russia, whereas wild ones are found in North America, Greenland and Iceland.

The very well used local name is Caribou, which is derived from a Mi'kmaq word, which means "one that paws (the ground)". A reindeer is also very well known in fiction as well. It is mostly used in Christmas fiction… like the Santa' riding is sleigh, which is pulled by the reindeer. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Robbie the Reindeer, Olive, the other Reindeer, Annabelle from Anabelle's Wish (a cow that turns into a Reindeer) are some of the other examples.
