I Would Like To Attend A British University. Which Is The Best?

Answer Question

This depends on the subject you wish to study and what you mean by 'best'.  Oxbridge is always considered the best Universities in the country (Oxbridge is the name given to the university of Oxford and the university of Cambridge).

There are many excellent universities, some places specialise in their subjects, the London School of Economics (LSE) for instance or the Royal College of Surgeons.

Oxbridge is VERY difficult to get into and it certainly isnt just a matter of what you can afford.

There are a number of universities that make up the Russell Group, which might be considered the finest in the nation.  These are:

    University of Birmingham

    University of Bristol

    University of Cambridge

    Cardiff University

    University of Edinburgh

    University of Glasgow

    Imperial College London

    King's College London

    University of Leeds

    University of Liverpool

London School of Economics & Political Science

    University of Manchester

    Newcastle University

University of Nottingham (I went here :o) )

    Queen's University Belfast

    University of Oxford

    University of Sheffield

    University of Southampton

    University College London

    University of Warwick

Try looking at the websites for these first.

This is very much a matter of personal choice and very dependent on the subjects you wish to study.
Traditionally the older established universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, Glasgow, St. Andrews and Edinburgh were thought to be best.

It also depends on where you want to live for the duration of your studies, for example if you dislike living in busy cities, London wouldn't be for you. Some universities such as Bangor in North Wales and Stirling in Scotland are very near to the countryside and the towns are much smaller than the larger cities.
The cost of living in any particular place should also be considered.

Probably the best thing to do would be to decide on your subject choices and either go onto the web to view individual university web sites, or ask to be sent a number of prospectuses, that way you can compare and contract what each university has to offer.

Oxbridge isn't always the best choice for everyone and there are some very good universities in the UK and Ireland.

Nottingham Trent University is the way to go!!
Sports and good night life are top of the list! Plus it's got a good graduate to employment ratio (around 96% go on to employment within the first 3 months of graduating, I think).

It obviously depends on what subject you are going to study, but as a student in Nottingham in my second year, I wouldn't choose to go anywhere else!
