How Can I Be A Good Minute Taker During The Meeting?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    1. Have a clear understanding of what needs to be recorded and what does not. Familiarity with the governing rules of the organization (often, but not always, Roberts Rules of Order) can be a big help. Usually, as a minimum, this means authorizations or expenditures of money or other quid pro quo, outcomes of votes, whether there is a quorum (who is present), and anything else that could ultimately result in a liability or obligation of the organization or its members or officers. In those matters, a record of the procedures followed is essential in case of a law suit.

    2. Make sure you get a clear statement of the propositions (motions, resolutions, items of business) placed before the group. If you need to, ask for clarification. Delay the meeting, if necessary, so you can write it down.

    3. Work with the meeting organizer to learn what the agenda is ahead of time. Try to help the meeting chair stay focused on that.
