Who Were The Main Characters In "Father Ted"?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

This BAFTA-winning 1990s sitcom starred the late Dermot Morgan as Father Ted Crilley, a disgraced Catholic priest sent to the remote parish of Craggy Island after having misappropriated some church funds ("The money was just resting in my account!") His companions in exile are the very dim-witted Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlan) and insane alcoholic Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly.) The mΓ©nage is kept going by the efforts of housekeeper Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn) who undertakes everything from trimming Father Jack's nails (at one point he appears to be growing claws, like a werewolf) to making ceiling-high piles of sandwiches. Ted leads a wretched life, trying to make Dougal understand his duties and restrain Father Jack (the latter's conversation consists entirely of shouts of "Drink! Feck! Girls!" and he frequently attacks visitors.) The series took a while to gain popularity, but eventually its surreal humour brought it cult status and numerous awards.
