Can You Give Me Some Information About Vinland?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Vinland was the wooded land of North America. In the year of 1000, it was founded by Leif Eriksson. The territory was named by Eriksson as the Lucky. The wooded land named Vinland or the Lucky was probably located along the Antarctic coast. The area is now situated at eastern or northeastern Canada. According to the legends of Norse Sagas, the territory was visited by the Vikings. They named the area 'wine land' for its wild grapes. After Leif Eriksson's first expedition, his brother Thorvald expedited the area for the second time in the year of 1003.

In the year of 1004, the Viking expedition was forsaken after the struggle with the native Indians. In the year of 1013, the final expedition was taken place by Erik the Red's daughter Freydis. The ruins of a Norse settlement were exposed in the year of 1963 at L'Anse Aux Meadows which is at the northernmost tip of New-founded land.
