Can You Explain The Relationship Between Empathy And Sympathy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Sympathy is feeling pity towards another person and the act of sympathizing is assuring them in a way that you don't quite understand what you are going through. However, empathy is actually being synchronized with another person in a way that you feel the way the do, you will put yourself in their shoes and understand what they are going through. Empathizing is usually on a more personal level, it is done to better understand whatever another person might be experiencing so that you can better understand their position and not just take their plight casually. For example if your friend's loved one dies you could just simply express your condolences and try to sympathize in a traditional manner or what you could do is put yourself in their position and feel what they are going through so that you could ease their pain on a more personal level.
