How Fast Do Finger Nails Grow?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The average growth rate for the nails is around 3 millimeters in a month but this is dependent on the person and the rate varies from one person to another. This is because weather, diet, age and general health affect the growth rate. In case, due to some accident you lose a finger nail, it will take almost 6 months to grow it back to the normal length. Nail growth is fast when we are young and it reaches a maximum rate between the ages of 10 to 14 but slows down gradually after that. It is enhanced during summers as compared to winters and poor blood circulation also causes the nails to grow slowly. The growth rate is different for each nail, the smallest or the pinkie finger’s nail has the slowest rate while the second slowest are the thumb nails.
