A floppy disk is a media that was composed of a spinning magnetic film made of much like the material on audio cassettes encapsulated in a jacket just to protect the data. Its max storage capacity was 1MB - 150 MB by the time they phased out.  Memory sticks are solid state media with storage capacities that soar into the hundreds of MBs.They can handle the large file sizes common with windows xp and mac os 10+ as well as audio and video and pic files.
