Is Sickle Cell Contagious?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

I was told that sickle cell can be transmitted to the baby if both parents have the trait. So you should find out if the father has sickle cell or has the  trait. Now if he doesn't then the baby might still have the trait but not actually have sickle cell.

Sickle cell disease is not contagious to others.  It is an internal condition which causes the red blood cells to go concave on one side, resembling a sickle, instead of remaining round.
