Is Maimi As Dodgy As It Sounds?

The problem for a place like Miami is that most people's point of reference is framed by what they see on TV or at the movies. Consequently, society's view of Miami is that of Miami Vice, retirement homes and plotting Cuban exiles.

But this is to do Miami a great disservice. For behind the clichés and caricatures lies so much more that only now is it being given the acknowledgement it deserves. It's Miami's hidden assets that have earned it endearments such as "America of the Millennium" and "America's Casablanca".

As a gateway to the Americas and the Caribbean, the ambience of Miami is multicultural. Its long standing trade and cultural links with the Americas gives Miami a distinctly Latin American and international air to it. Truly bilingual, neither English nor Spanish is the junior partner in Miami.

Together with its sunny and warm climate, Miami adds up to a city that could be easily mistaken for a modern European or Latin American city.
