Do You Have Any Suggestions For A Newbie To Meditation?

I have a hard time relinquishing control so meditation has been a struggle for me so far. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated ;)

    Artguy, here is a little trick I use when beginning meditation.  I tell my ego to step back over my left shoulder.  When my mind wanders, I don't get aggravated but allow whatever the thoughts were to pass on by and refocus myself by envisioning a lit candle and then continue with my meditation. Also, I have found that if I am having trouble "focusing" to begin by entering nature in my mind.....this helps my mind become accustomed to meditative exercises.

    Generally, one only has to be consistent and your focus will come.   Congratulations on your new venture in meditation therapy.  I truly believe in it's effectiveness.

      Yes, but any suggestions about how to release control, to let myself truly relax and really be able to meditate. Whenever i try i can't help but keep thinking about other things other than relaxing. I've tried different cd's. I was just wondering if anyone had a little tip or trick i was missing somehow ;)
