How Do You Burn CDs From Cassettes?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

This process is very simple and all you need is a personal computer and a cassette player and few other equipments. Software you could use is Radioshack.

What you have to do is to connect you cassette player with your PC with the help of line in jack. You can change the audacity level according to the sound track you want. The next step you have to take is to press the record button and then start playing the cassette. When you are done with the cassette you should press the stop button on the audacity.

To save your recording you should use 'File Export as WAV' menu item and the resultant item can be converted into MP3 and even can be burned into a CD.

But as precaution you should do for first ten second only in the initial phase. If every thing goes right in the initial phase you can continue with it.

I've just embarked on a spot of digitising my old tapes to MP3. It's something i've always wanted to have a go at.

      You'll need:
A tape player with a line out or headphones socket.
A lead to connect the tape player to the soundcard
A computer with a sound card that has a Line In.

I was in the market for a free piece of software to the job first. I had a look on Download.com and spotted the very popular and also very free Audiograbber.
I also needed to purchase the correct lead. I got a male to male, 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack lead. Very cheap only cost £2.88 including P+P. Check what size you need.
I'd also got a vintage tape player from the loft (which i used to use for my ZX Spectrum!) which had a line out. After plugging both together it was the a matter of making sure my soundcard had the Line In turned on. Once in Audiograbber, click File / Line in sampling. Make sure it's set to record from Line in and then click record. You can save to WAV or to MP3.
The quality of the recording will heavily depend on quality of your tape player and/or tape quality. Once you've got your MP3 you can burn it to your CD. Good luck!
