Can Anyone Tell Me About Weight Loss?

Answer Question

Weight loss tops the list of New Year's resolutions for more and more Canadians each year. And for good reason: more than half of Canada's adult population is overweight, including 15 percent who are considered obese. A recent report published by the University of Toronto shows that the incidence of obesity has doubled in the past fifteen years. Obese people are at higher risk for degenerative conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis and cancer. Clearly, excess weight is more than a cosmetic problem.

Weight loss programs and diet clubs are big business, with 30 percent of all adults in North America on a weight-loss diet at any given time. Many, however, are unable to keep their weight off, and some have lost and regained it numerous times. Several studies indicate that more than 90 percent of those who lose weight regain it within five years.

To turn that New York's resolution into a weight loss plan that works, we must emphasize the quality, not just quantity, of food. The reason most weight-loss diets fail is that they end up starving an already malnourished body. To encourage weight loss, it's important to eat nutrient-dense foods that help the body nourish and support healthy cells and optimal metabolic function.
