Local Area Network is generally called LAN. It is method of connecting more than one computer within limited geographic area. Basically Local Area Network (LAN) is used for three main reasons; for sharing information, resources and for centralized control.  Data is transfer through cable (fibre optics cable, coaxial cable, twisted pair cable etc). Ethernet is Local area network (LAN) access method. LAN basically consists of personal computers (PC). Network Interface Cards (NIC) is used for connecting these computers and also promotes the link between printers, Cat-5 cables and modems. Client and server two form of computers are used. Serve computer is responsible of giving rights to share expensive resources such as printer and also different softwares. Client computers are used services files and applications provided by network operating system. To exchange information in different companies or schools or universities used to connect multiple users and workstations. Server computer may be personal computer (PC), Mainframe computer or Mini computer. Other different Hardwares used in Local Area Network (LAN) are different types of switches, DSL cable modem routers, HUB (non intelligent device), jacks, wall plates, media converters, NIC/copper, NIC/fiber. Patch panels, transceivers wireless devices, bridges etc.
