Emmanuel or Immanuel is a name for a boy. It is a word in Hebrew which means 'god is with us'. It appears in the new testament of the bible. This name was given to Jesus at his birth. It consists of two Hebrew words i.e. "im" meaning 'with' and "el" which meant 'god'. It is a first name among Christians. It occurs as an important prophecy. It occurs three times in the bible. Immanuel thus is a reference to god. It occurs twice in the Old Testament and once in the gospel of Matthew.
Emmanuel is also a college in the heart of Cambridge. It was founded in 1584. It is not by the Cambridge standards but has a long and proud history.
