    County cricket is played in the counties of United Kingdom. It is considered to be first class cricket and is domestic to UK. Almost all of the teams were named after, and originally represented English counties. The first official championship of county cricket was organized in 1890. Gloucestershire, Kent, Lancashire, Middlesex, Nottinghamshire, Surrey, Sussex and Yorkshire competed for it.  Many famous Indian cricketers have played in county cricket over the past years. Some of them are Sunil Gavaskar who is considered one of the greatest opening batsmen in the history of cricket. He played for Somerset County Cricket Club. More recently Ajit Agarkar, who is known for his success as a bowler in the one-day series against West Indies, played county cricket. Opening batsman Virender Sehwag played for Leicestershire while off-spinner Harbhajan Singh represented Lancashire. Medium pacer Javagal Srinath played for Durham. Other players such as Srinath played for Leicestershire.
