What Is Clay?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Clay is about less than 4 micrometers. It is the finest particle in a soil or rock. It is one of the major elements of soil. The Clay is an advantage in a dry season, since it has water retention properties. Compared to sand, clay soil proves much richer in vegetation. In order to avoid them from becoming 'muggy', lime needs to be applied to clay soil on a regular basis.
The two types of clay are: residual clay and transported clay. Residual clay is generally found in the place of origin. Over the years these two clays have been used on a large scale in agriculture, architecture and in industry. Clay has also been used for manufacturing of tiles, drainage and sewage pipes and floor coverings.
