How Do I Build Shelves Over Garage Door?

I would like to build a loft over the garage door. I see questions, but they do not appear to lead to any specific plans.

It's  rather dangerous to give out plans, without knowing any specifics.  Some structural engineering should be done to calculate the loads, and size the beams, particularly if you're putting in a large loft.  You could have a serious structural failure and possibly a very hazardous collapse (which is bad).

There are some lightweight wire shelving systems that can be installed.  Keep the weight down and you won't have an overloading issue.

Thank You, I understand what you are saying. I guess I'm looking for some general answers for something that is appx 4 by 8. Should I use 2x6 or 2x4's? How thick should plywood be? Do I use corner brackets to connect the beams to the end? etc.

A 4 x 8 ft platform could be supported by 2 x 4's on edge. Use metal corner braces to strengthen them. Support should be added from the ceiling via metal rods, angle iron or cables. Use 3/4" plywood.

Thanks again for the help. Will 2x4s screwed into the joyces in the ceiling work instead of metal rods.? I understand that I'll have to cut holes into the ceiling to do so. Also the e-mail I received referred to a "Yes" button if my question is answered. Where can I find this?
