Simply put, composition refers to a mixture of components or ingredients. The union of different parts to make a whole is known as composition. The style in which the components are related or linked to each other in a unit is often described as a composition.

The word composition can also mean a short essay. An outcome of a creative effort like music or a literary piece is often called as a composition.  A mutual arrangement done for settling differences or a compromise is also called as a composition. Composition is also a settlement done by the creditor for a debtor on the verge of filing for bankruptcy, agreeing to write off the debt in lieu for a receipt of payment lesser than the amount actually owed.
